Tips To Help You Choose Your Line To Catch Grouper

What Fishing Line Should I Use To Catch Grouper?

We wrote this article for those who are interested in targeting grouper and want to know what fishing line they need. This is a quick read that will cover just that.

What Braided Fishing Line Should I Use?

We recommend using 50LB-130Lb braid for fishing for grouper. If you are fishing reef, the lighter end of that range should work, if you are fishing near wrecks, we recommend going to the heavier end of that spectrum.

What Monofilament Fishing Line Should I Use?

We recommend going with braid first for grouper. If you are fishing in shallow water (under 150ft) you can get away with using 50-80Lb monofilament. There are some groupers such as Red Grouper that you can get away with catching on much lighter mono such as 20-30Lb monofilament

What Monofilament Leader Material Should I Use?

For smaller groupers like red groupers 40Lb leader should work well. If you are targeting blacks there is no reason to scale down under 100Lb leader

What Fluorocarbon Leader Material Should I Use?

For smaller groupers like red groupers 40Lb fluorocarbon leader should work well. If you are targeting big black grouper or gag grouper there is no reason to scale down under 100Lb fluorocarbon leader
