March Fishing In The Florida Panhandle

Hello from the panhandle in Florida! As many of you may have figured out spring has sprung at last and the fish are on the move! I have been watching reports from inshore all the way to the beach piers and everything is just absolutely on fire.
We just got into March and redfish, speckled trout and sheepshead have been coming in with great success and for the pier guys and surf fisherman we have already seen cobia, king mackerel, black fin tuna, and Spanish mackerel being landed.
So if you have been waiting out this cold winter spell we had now is your time to brush the dust off the gear and head to your favorite fishing grounds and get a line wet and hear that magical sound of the drag. So let’s get into this and talk a little bit about some of the lures and tactics that have been producing fish so far this spring bite.
The inshore bite has moved from the river systems out into the bays and bayous and even onto some of the flats. Top lures so far have been soft plastics, shallow diving crank baits, and even a few top water bites for big speckled trout. Lures such as the spook jr top water plug, the manns minus 1 saltwater, and soft plastic paddle tails are what have been working for the artificial bite.
As far as live baits the redfish as starting to key in on shrimp so if live baits your style rig up your Carolina rigs or even free line your shrimp up against those grass banks or on the flats. Moving to the piers and beaches. The Spanish mackerel have been coming over the railings using small gold gotcha plugs as well as larger sabiki rigs sight casting at the schools. Kings have been taken on cigar minnows drifting in the current at the end of the piers. Cobia as usual is mostly sight casting using jigs to entice the bite. So the bite is on people and if you want that fresh fish dinner get out there and get you some!
