How To:

Decide To Buy A High End Reel Or Not

High End Reels Can Be Over $1,000 New

Have you ever thought about buying an expensive reel like a Van Staal, ZeeBaas, or a Accurate fishing reel?

They can cost around $600 to $1,000, and is it worth spending that much for a fishing reel? I think it depends on what type of fishing you do. They are best for people who go offshore fishing, surf fishing, or if you want to get a reel that lasts a lifetime if you take care of it. If you wash it off every time you come back from fishing and send it in the manufacturer every year to service it it will last you however long you want it to. Most of the higher end reels have sealed gear boxes and sealed drag so you can dunk them under water and it won't hurt them at all. You can also find higher end reels used only on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and many more places.

Used Vs. New (High End Reels)

Van Staal vs run about $800 new and you can find them used for about $500

ZeeBaas zx2 run about $900 new and you can find them used for about $700

And I have never had any accurate reels so i don't know ant pricing on them.

What To Look For When Buying A Used Reel

When buying a used reel you want to look for scratches, the service history, and if its a older one the serial number. Those factors can all bring the price down on the reel.

one thing about sealed reels are that they are harder to reel because there the seals put extra resistance on the handle. But after a few months it goes away.

Once you buy your reel make sure you spool it up with Bullbuster line!
