What is the best knot to connect braid to mono?
There are thousands of knots out there, but only a few that you will memorize or end up using often. If you know these three knots, we think you should be good to go when it comes to braid to mono connections.
A Good Fishing Knot Should Be
The uni-knot is one of the simplest and fastest knots to tie for braid to mono connections, it is also one of the most reliable knots. Below is a video from the Technical Anglers youtube channel showing how to tie it. According to the video, the uni-knot has 85% to 90% knot strength.
The Basic Building Block For The Double Uni (The Uni Knot)
Like the name says, the double uni knot is two unit knots. This knot is one of the most useful knots out there and can be used for many applications, so it is worthy to learn. It is pretty easy to learn and it is hard to screw up once you have learned it. These factors make it one of the best knots for fishing.
When tying the unit knot we reccommend 4-5 turns around your doubled line.
How to tie the Uni-To Uni-Knot (also created by Technical Anglers)
The double uni like the name says is two uni knots. When tying a larger diameter line to a smaller diameter line like is often the case with braided fishing line to monofilament you are going to want to put 3-4 more wraps on the braided line uni knot vs. the mono uni knotthis will make the braid uni knot large enough to meet up with the mono uni-knot.
The Simplified FG Knot
The Simplified FG Knot has been gaining popularity in the angling community for the past few years. It is extremely useful for anglers fishing with extreme drag and has been utilized a lot in the jigging and popping community. If you are fishing heavy drag on light reels for big fish and choosing not to use hollow core braid, this is a good knot for you to learn.
