Line Capacity Vs. Line Strength

When spooling a new reel with fishing line we often find ourselves stuck.  Do I go for more line capacity or do I go for more line strength?  This is a serious question and it deserves a serious answer.  We put together this article together to give you a few rules of thumb so that you never get stuck when making this decision.

The way to figure out the line capacity tradeoff is to ask yourself a few questions?

1) Am I fishing for sportfish or for table fare?

If you are fishing for sportfish we recommend going line capacity over line strength. Don't horse your fish let her run give her time and make sure that you have plenty of line capacity.

If you are targeting meatfish for table fare we recommend going with line strength over line capacity.  There's no need to play your fish, simply horse her up and don't let her take a thing!

2) The way I fish do I usually have double headers and triple headers or more?

If you answered yes to this question then be sure to go with line capacity.  Sometimes you just need to put a fish in a rod holder and then let that sucker run!

If you answered no to this question then line strength is the way to go. You have time to focus, no need to let your fish scope out!
