What Fishing Means To Me-Jamie Cooke

What is Fishing?

The following article is one that a member on our team sent in for submission I hope you enjoy!

Fishing. It’s more than just a sport to some, it’s a passion. When the world seems to be weighing down on you and you’ve lost all hope go fishing. I’ve never seen a sad person holding a fish. I’ve personally caught so many different species of fish, from fresh to saltwater and every single new species gives you such a sense of accomplishment. People think that fishing is just about going out and catching a fish, but I know that it’s more than that. I’ve had friendships restored over a few cane poles and some crappie minnows. I’ve had strangers become my closest friends and close friends become family. The beauty of going fishing is anyone can do it! Little kids can fish, the elderly can fish, and the disabled can fish. It’s something everyone can enjoy if they take the time to do it. I lost my father at the age of 15 and he was my number one fishing buddy. Any chance we got to go together we went. We traveled the great state of North Carolina fishing bass tournaments and on family vacations to the beach where we were on a boat flounder fishing. It’s more than a sport, it’s memories that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Every time I catch a fish that my dad and I fished for together it’s as if he had never gone. I feel his presence every time that bass jumps or that flounder shakes his head and it’s what keeps me going back. To some people fishing is just something but to me it’s everything.
