Last Minute Trip But Successful!!!

Hello all,

March 20: Last minute trip to go out that evening since the weather was supposed to be calm out of the South. We left the dock about 7pm and weather said South at 5 or less. As soon as we got out there we realized it was South at 15 but we already committed to fishing. Once we anchored got the chum going hard the tails were almost instant near the boat. However on this day they were all smaller fish compared to just 5 days before were they were all nice. While fishing for the yellowtails the smaller mangroves showed up right behind the boat (Early in the season) which was a surprise. None of the mangroves were of any size so we threw them all back.

About 2.5 hours we landed are 3 man snapper limit with 30 yellowtails and came back in by 10.

We used 12lb mono with the regular 30lb leader. I rarely use any fluorocarbon, and when I do I don't see a huge difference in the bite ratio. Normally I chum hard along with oats, menhaden oil, and melted chum as well so I believe just putting the fish into a frenzy gets them less spooky.

The bite: Lately the bite has been going off in the evening for the yellowtails at about 5pm on, fished a few mornings and been very slow.
