Gotta Love The Keys For Shark Fishing!!
Got a message from my buddy Jimmy a few weeks prior to the trip asking if I wanted to hit the Keys. The answer is always yes when asked for a Keys trip. Got my duel 12/0w, 4/0 senator, and 3000 Ci4 all spooled up with BULLBUSTER ready for the trip. Got down there setup at Longkey for the night looking for one of them legendary Key’s hammers Jimmy ended up getting a big goliath. As the sun came up the jacks started running the bridge me, Jimmy, and Mark started jigging away loading up for bait for the night time. Ended up with 5 big yellow jacks and a nice jack crevalle.
Making My Way Up The 7 Mile Bridge!
Packed the car up and headed further south to 7 Mile bridge. Got there around dusk and walked out witch the walk felt like forever. Got to the end and rigged up shark reels and drifted baits out in the current. This night was on FIRE sharks all night long. First up was Jimmy on a 8’ stud bull shark. Them big bulls fight good in the current there. Got the fish straight up and down walked to the beginning to safely remove the hooks and snap a few pictures. Got back out to the end where Mark was waiting watching the reels. Shortly after getting back we got another hit which was a big tipper they started walking that fish this time I stayed and watched the reels.
When they were about halfway down I looked at my line and it was under the bridge u know what that means GOLIATH time. The fight was on good thing I had my 300lb BULLBUSTER monofilament on my duel or he would’ve been gone. Got the fish straight up and down and dropped my rope line cutter and cut the line. Jimmy and Mark get back from walking the tipper. Then Mark’s new Tiagra 80W also spooled with BULLBUSTER got picked up the fight was on with yet another big bull shark. Got the fish straight up and down started walking the fish down and he freaked out started thrashing everywhere and spit the hook.
My Hard Hit!!
We get settled back down and heard something in the water I shine over towards my Duel’s bait and see a big bull sitting behind the scent trail. About 20 Minutes later what do u know the reel started rolling. I hit the running man into the big bull and he pins me to the rail running like a freight train. We thought we had a smaller hammer. He worked me up and down the bridge then we finally seen the fish a foul hooked bull shark. Walked the fish down snapped a few pictures and back she went to be caught another day.
