July Tampa Bay Fishing Report:
Inshore- The Snook bite has been really good inside Tampa Bay especially inside the passes and along the beaches where they seem to be more active. The snook are still continuing to spawn and will do this till around mid September and will make there way back. The Snook have been hitting almost everything such as greenbacks, shrimp, Pigfish, mullet and even on snapper carcasses. I like to use 50lb or 60lb Flourocarbon Leader for the big snook. The Tarpon action is still good along the beaches as we approach the late season to target Tarpon. I have seen some Tarpon inside the passes and along the beaches. It is important to follow the bait pods along the beach where the Tarpon usually are lurking near. The recent rain we have been having inside Tampa Bay has been making the Sheepshead and Black Drum more excited and willing to bite. This drops the water temperature down a few degrees and stirs up the water a little bit. My favorite way to target the Sheepshead is with crabs such as fiddler crabs or oysters. For the Blackdrum, I have been seeing big black drum in the 50lb plus range cruising around the bridges. My favorite bait for these big drums are blue crabs which is hard for them to turn down.
