So How Danny Caught his First Stripper!
After three years of trying to catch a striper with nothing to show for it. Danny Chow came out on Carson's Charters for a Back Bay light tackle striper trip. Knowing this early in the year we were only going to find smaller ones we were determined to put Danny on his first striper. We pulled into one of the many rivers that connect to the Barnegat Bay where Danny started throwing a 5 inch white swim shad using a Penn Pursuit II with 20# Bullbuster braid with a mono leader. Starting out it was slow with no life to be seen anywhere as we were waiting for the tide to turn. After about an hour with no luck we moved further up the river into warmer water. As the tide changed we started marking fish right away and just like that Danny was hooked up to a 15 inch striper finally breaking his 3 year drought. Even though this was no monster his smile says it all about how much it meant to him to be able to catch his first one and break the ice. He was also able to catch a 12 inch fluke on the next cast with the same swim shad. Even though we only managed to land 2 fish and lost a few others over the four hour charter it was a trip he will never forget and has fueled the fire to work hard for the next one as the season gets underway.
