December Bottom Fishing In Bimini, Bahamas
Before the bad weather came for South Florida with the cold front that came through had a two day break December 6-7. Ran over to Bimini to go check out some spots on the bank and than to do some wahoo trolling.
Fishing The Bahamas Bank:
Once we cleared the customs we went directly over to a wreck I have. Once we anchored up the yellowtails and mangroves were stacked there. We were being picky with the ones we wanted to keep as the low limit your aloud. As soon as the action started on the wrecks we noticed a school of amberjacks that wanted to eat everything you tried to bring to the boat.
We were teasing the amberjacks to the surface to try and get one to eat a fly but after hours of trying we couldn't get one. So we just fed them live bait and caught one on Bullbuster 20lb mono that was 55lbs and Bullbuster 65lb braid that was 50lbs. Very impressive fish for being in 15 feet of water.
I have never high speed trolled for the wahoo so we gave it a shot. We only trolled two lines this day and within 5 min we had a strike, however we slowed down to quick and pulled the hook. About an hour later we had another hit and kept our speed going and we landed a decent size wahoo. Felt great to get the technique down and going to go back soon to really try for them.
