Lauren and I set out looking to fish a spot that was a bit of a drive for us and we got to the beach right as it was getting dark, unloaded the truck and began hauling all the gear to the beach. We only got to set up one rod each that night. I rigged the baits and I was off into the night. The surf was pretty rough and as I paddled out near the sandbar, a wave wiped me out. Luckily I was able to grab my bait and my rig and jumped back in the kayak and kept paddling. I was a bit shook up but was in the clear and smooth paddling was ahead. I was able to get out a decent ways before dropping in hopes that it would hold. There way way more grass than I had originally thought.
When I got back to the beach from that first drop, I quickly grabbed the other bait and made my way out through the rough surf, this time making it out with a clean shot through.
We then had two baits soaking but the grass was collecting quickly on the lines. I knew we had a long night ahead of us!. We were up every 20 minutes or so getting taking the grass off and adjusting our lines but we made it happen! Hours went by without a click. We began to think we were going to be going home soon after all of our efforts without any action but a little before 6 a.m. Laurens Tiagra 130 doubled over! Grass and all and she managed to land this big healthy Bull.
