Striper Fishing In New Jersey March 2019

We left the ramp around 5:30 am. We started out slow with marking few fish and some bait but couldn’t get any of them to commit. We tried trolling Joe Baggs Mojos, Stretches, Swim shads and Scabelly Trollers with no hits. We found birds most of the morning but didn’t seem that the fish were aggressively feeding under the bait.

As the Morning went on the fleet spread out which gave us a little more room to ourselves. We started trolling our spread and it didn’t take long for the first fish to hit the deck. Roughly a 27.5” striper grabbed a hold of a JoeBaggs Mojo. After a quick picture it was safely released. By the time we reset and dropped that same mojo back into the water we had another fish grab it before it hit bottom. This one was a little better coming in around 34-35” weighing 15 lbs.

"Chris Johnson threw his brand new Custom Scabelly Spook out and we watched 3-4 fish come up trying to grab it"

At this point we decided to switch everything over to White Mojos and continue. Just like that rods are bending, and drags are screaming. Over a half dozen doubles, three triples and a quadruple all landed on JoeBaggs White Mojos. At this point we are marking fish all below us and we decided to try jigging and plugging. While we were getting the lines cleared we had a mojo just touching the water maybe half way submerged and sure enough the line starts peeling out.

I Guess the Patriot fish tail from the mojo looked to irresistible to the 35” striper that decided to come up and grab it. We started throwing plugs and jigging mojos and others and landed a few more. We Caught well over 20 fish almost all keeper size while losing a good amount at the boat. We kept our 5 man under limit (yes, I jumped on a rod today).

By far the best catch of the day was when Chris Johnson threw his brand new Custom Scabelly Spook out and we watched 3-4 fish come up trying to grab it. Before he went to cast a second time I started recording. You can watch the rest below.
