What Fishing Line Do I Need For Shark Fishing?

We wrote this article as a guide to help you choose your fishing line for shark fishing. With this article we are assuming that you are just getting into shark fishing a need a guide that will get you started. We have several recommendations for types of fishing lines you may need for different situations and goals. 

What Braided Fishing Line Should I Use?


We recommend using between 50-200Lb test braided fishing lines when fishing for sharks. Most people fill their reels 2/3 with braid and then topshot it with mono.

For sharks up to 6 feet: 50Lb Braid

For Sharks up to 8 feet: 80-100Lb Braid

For sharks that are 9-10ft: 130-200Lb Braid

For sharks above 10 feet: 130-200Lb Braid

What Monofilament Fishing Line Should I Use?


We recommend using between 80-300LB Monofilament Fishing Line when fishing for sharks. Most people fill their reels 2/3 with braid and then topshot it with mono.For sharks up to 6 feet :  50Lb monofilament

For Sharks up to 8 feet: 80-100Lb monofilament

For sharks that are 9-10ft: 100-125Lb monofilament

For sharks above 10 feet: 125-300LB monofilament

What Monofilament Leader Material Should I Use?


We recommend using 600-1000LB grander monofilament leader to make your shark rigs.  You can use 15 feet of grander mono followed by 4 feet of wire.
