Striped Bass Has No Chance With Bullbuster Braid!

Fishing Line For Stripers AKA Rockfish AKA Striped Bass

Though some anglers think braided fishing line is a relatively new invention, it's actually the oldest. Prehistoric people used woven cotton or linen to pull fish from creeks, rivers, lakes and oceans. But woven cotton isn't exactly strong, thin or low-vis. (See The History Of Fishing Line) Cut strips out of an old T-shirt, and ask your 9-year-old  to braid it. That's just about what the cavemen had to work with, Thankfully Bullbuster took these steps and created their own product that we use today, We will discuss braided line in more depth.

Bullbuster Braided lines are 1/3 to 1/4 the diameter of mono or fluorocarbon lines at a given test breaking strength. Therefore, it is easy to fit much longer braided line on a spool than mono or fluorocarbon line for the same strength. This is very important for deep sea fishing, since reels don't have to be very big to accommodate long lines. Also, thin braided lines provide less resistance to sea currents.

Fishing For Striped Bass

Bullbuster Braided lines have very little stretch, making fishing rigs very sensitive to fish bites; This is very important for both deep sea fishing and when targeting fish with a gentle bite. Due to the minimal stretch of braided line, hard-hitting fish will frequently cause the line to break. Thus it is very important to set the drag on reels on very low values.

Braided fishing lines are very flexible and can be easier to cast long distances. Braided line typically floats, and as such, is a common choice for topwater rigs, etc.

Rhode Island Striped Bass Fishing

We like to use a 30lb class braided line when we are fishing for trophy striped bass in Rhode Island waters in the spring time. The areas we are fishing are all mud flats, so the 30lb is perfect. There are no rocks for the line to cut on. When we start to fish off Newport and Block Island we will bump up the class of line to the 50-60lb because of the boulder fields. Its very important to use the correct class of line, in the current area you will be fishing.

These fish where all caught using the 30lb Bullbuster braid. Its all about proper drag on your fishing reel. The drag is simply a pair of friction plates inside of fishing reels. If the fish pulls on the line hard enough, the friction is overcome, and the reel rotates backwards, letting line out, preventing the line from breaking. You want to set the drag on a fishing reel before your first cast of the day.
