Bullbuster In Action:

Snook, Sheepshead, And Redfish In The Mangroves

Fishing with Filets in mind.

With another cold front in Southwest Florida, we figured we would try fishing the mangroves for some dinner. We were targeting Sheepshead, Redfish, and even snapper, as they all make great eating filets.

sheepshead

After having our bait robbed a few times, our first fish was this monster Sheepshead that Ashley got. It pulled her into the rocks next to the mangroves, but Ashley managed to yank it out before it broke off. We got a total of 6 keeper Sheepshead, all ranging from 14-20 inches.

After a few more Sheepshead later, Ashley got this 19" Red. We caught another one prior, but it was a baby.

snook

Throughout the entire afternoon, we were catching Snook left and right. They were all pretty small, about 25" and smaller. They still put up a fun fish on light tackle, and it kept the day interesting.

shrimp, live and hooked

Our bait of choice was live shrimp. We were free lining them on size 4 hooks with 20Lb Flourocarbon leader. Even though you loose casting ability when free-lining, the wind was pretty calm so it wasn't too bad. All the other people around us were fishing with egg sinkers, but we were out catching them. I feel this was due to being able to feel the bite, especially for the finicky Sheepshead.
