The boat we fish out of is Lund's flagship model the 2275 Baron. This is the biggest boat Lund makes, and is a perfect boat for the big waters of Green Bay and Lake Michigan. In early March, winter starts to lose its grip on the area, and the rivers start to open. At this time the Walleye start migrating to the rivers for their spring spawn. The Fox River is usually the first river to open, and many fisherman flock to this river for that first trip of the year. Most people are simply jigging with a variety of plastics or live bait such as minnows. The Oconto, Peshtigo, and Menominee rivers are the next to open. We usually fish these rivers until the Walleye are done spawning.
As soon as the ice melts on Green Bay, we start trolling giant Door County Walleye. This type of fishing has a very high success rate on trophy size fish. The month of May is a very busy and exciting month in the area. The Bass fishing in Door County is world class, Coho fishing on southern Lake Michigan is going strong, and the post spawn Walleye fishing can be incredible! In June the King Salmon start to show up around the northern ports of Lake Michigan. Kewaunee, Algoma, Sturgeon Bay, and Baileys Harbor are all good ports for finding giant King Salmon and Rainbow Trout. The Salmon and Walleye fishing are fairly steady through August. In late August and September the Musky fishing on Green Bay picks up. Many fish over 50" are caught this time of the year. As fall starts to settle in, the fishing patterns change, but can be excellent as most fish are bulking up for the winter. As winter settles in, the boat gets put away and we start ice fishing. December, January, and February are the months to catch Whitefish on the bay, and Panfish on the inland lakes. We use multiple Bullbuster lines for many different species which will be featured in future articles.
