Big Black Drum Off Bridges

Fishing For Blackdrum From Land

While out snook and tarpon fishing this past weekend I decided to drop down a live blue crab on bottom and see what happens. The tarpon were rolling everywhere and the snook were popping baits on top. After about 30 minutes of fishing I heard the clicker go off and I knew I had a big one on. After a good fight up and down the bridge I saw a giant black drum at the end of the line. Thankfully a guy fishing near me let me borrow a drop net so I could pull him up. The Black Drum was a giant estimated weight over 40 pounds! This time of year especially during the fall and spring offer good fishing for giant black drum and redfish along the bridges, beaches, and jetties. The cool water seems to get em excited and more willing to bite. My favorite bait to use for them is a big live bait or cut bait even a artificial such as a flair hawk would work well. The tackle I was using was 50lb Bullbuster Monofilament main line. The leader I had on was 60lb Bullbuster Monofilament leader material. The bait I was using was a blue crab which black drum, tarpon, and redfish can't resist. Snook season also btw is coming up starting September 1st and I'm looking forward to a good one.
