Sailfish Kayak Tournament Report
So started off my tournament series of 2020 with the Sailfish Smackdown in Pompano Beach FL on Jan 18-19!! There were 45-50 anglers that entered but I think the rough conditions got the best of some. This is an offshore kayaking sailfish tournament which starts off the year of tournament season for me.This tournament is normally a 2 day tournament but due to really rough seas on Saturday they had to cancel. So we were hoping they didn’t have to do the same on Sunday which they didn’t the go ahead was given and we made it happen. Even though Sunday had every bit of 3-5 ft seas mostly everyone made it off the beach.
There was a handful of anglers that flipped but they didn’t give up!! Unfortunately I went 1-2 on sails landing my first sail at 8:52am but I lost my second and I missed out on the top 5 I placed 7th overall still not bad considering the conditions..The bite was insane anglers were hooking up left and right all you heard most of the day was fish on!! The help boats were going crazy from angler to angler and they did an awesome job of documenting catches to keeping us safe!! This tournament broke records with 22 sailfish landed and 4 landed by the winner!! It was a great and epic day!!! If you would like to see full results go to ExtremeKayakfishing!!! And if you want to knock off some bucket list from a kayak around the world the go check out Fishvillage!! Bullbuster 25# mono and 30# and 40# bullbuster fluorocarbon was used!!! Thanks
